Orlando theater actor relishes villainy in ‘MacGyver’ episode

- By Hal Boedeker

The villain in Friday’s episode of “MacGyver” may look familiar. Orlando theater and TV actor Roger Floyd plays baddie Enzo Lemaire.

“The character is a notorious art thief, and let’s just say he is not a very charming individual, as the audience will discover when he finally reveals himself,” Floyd said in an email interview. “My screen time isn’t extensive, but it’s another nice guest star to add to my credits, and depending on how kind the editors were to me, it will be an explosive few minutes on screen. Hopefully a quality of minutes versus quantity.”

“MacGyver” airs 8 p.m. Friday on CBS.

Floyd doesn’t appear until the episode’s end, but viewers can watch him put his stamp on the role.

“I had more fun on this gig than most of the shows I’ve done,” he said, “because I was given the freedom by the director and the lead actors to ad-lib and improv a bit with the scene, which is always a freedom I love when working on camera or on the stage.”

Floyd, who grew up in Central Florida, has performed in Orlando plays through the years. “The most memorable for me, other than my own play ‘The Painter,’ were ‘Jesus Hopped the A Train,’ ‘The Last Days of Judas Iscariot’ and playing Prospero as guest artist at Valencia in ‘The Tempest,’ ” he said.

“I love the Orlando theater community and relish in seeing it thrive, even though I’m not involved the way I once was,” he added.

Floyd’s other TV credits include “Nashville,” “Under the Dome” and a four-episode stint on “Graceland.”

“We moved to Atlanta a year ago, which made working on ‘MacGyver’ a lot more convenient than driving up from Orlando, as I was doing before,” he said. “It was really nice to be able to get up, drive to work and then come back home to my own bed like a ‘normal’ job. Whatever normal is.”
