Brooks: Orlando a great Pro Bowl host

- By Iliana Limón Romero

Former Tampa Bay Bucs and Florida State standout Derrick Brooks said he would love to see the Pro Bowl stay in Orlando every year.

Brooks was in Orlando Monday to promote the Pro Bowl that will be played at Camping World Stadium at 3 p.m. Jan. 28.

It will be the second year Orlando hosts the game, but the city hasn’t locked in a long-term agreement to be the home of the Pro Bowl.

“Yeah, if I get one vote, you know I’m gonna vote it, but I think the decision is bigger than mine,” said Brooks, who was named the 2018 Pro Bowl Legends Captain. “I think last year this area stepped up and proved that they can host this whole event, not just the game. The stadium is awesome, the experiences are awesome. I think there’s a lot to offer.”

Brooks will get a chance to mentor NFL stars selected to play in the Pro Bowl, but he doesn’t want to add any pressure to a relaxed week that tends to be more about connecting with fans.

“I don’t want to go in with any expectations, I just want the players to know that I’m open,” Brooks said. “Whatever the coaching is, whether it’s the game, whether it’s their own positions, you name it. … [I] rarely get a chance to get close to a hundred of the superstars together, to be in that group, so I’m excited for it.

“Again, I have no expectations and I’m probably going to be a lot more nervous than I seem right now to be amongst them, but I just want them to be there for them. And obviously the fans.”
