Mayfield leads Heisman crowd

- By Matt Murschel

Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield continues to build on his already impressive performances this season as he looks to become just the seventh player in history to finish as a Heisman finalist in three consecutive seasons.

Barkley finished with a season-low 85 all-purpose yards during Penn State’s 35-6 win over Rutgers Saturday. His 35 yards rushing was also a season low, but the talented running back did find the end zone twice during the game, bringing his total of rushing touchdowns up to 11. He still leads the Big Ten in all-purpose yards with 1,846 yards and 184.6 yards per game, which would be the highest single-season average since Melvin Gordon averaged 195.7 yards in 2014. Barkley needs 101 yards rushing in the next two games to make it three seasons in a row with at least 1,000 rushing yards.

It’s just too bad it took half the season for Arizona to figure out how to integrate Tate into the Wildcats’ offense. Imagine what the sophomore could have been capable of doing with a full season under his belt? Tate still managed to be the first quarterback in the Pac-12 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and he’s just two yards shy of 1,000 yards passing. Along the way, he helped the team jump back into the division race for a bit and has posted a 5-1 record as a starter. While a Heisman is most likely out of reach, Tate’s performance gives hope for Arizona in 2018.
