It’s likely Frost will leave UCF for Nebraska.

Mike Hughes is a man of few words. But when he speaks, it’s usually important.

Before the junior cornerback raced his way into UCF football history with a 95 yard kickoff return for a game-winning touchdown against rival USF last week, Hughes called special teams coach Jovan DeWitt in the booth from the sideline and declared the Knights were going to win.

“‘Don’t worry about it, coach. I got it,’” DeWitt recalled Hughes telling him.

DeWitt said Hughes has uttered those words three times this season. The first two times resulted in two touchdowns, a 66-yard punt return against East Carolina and a 91-yard kickoff return against Austin Peay.

No. 14 UCF will need a little more of Hughes’ magic to thwart No. 20 Memphis and earn the program’s third American Athletic Conference championship

during an ESPNU radio interview Thursday. It added to tension within the program and among fans eager to hear an endorsement of the Seminoles.

“You know my answer, I’m not going to talk about jobs,” Fisher said while being interviewed by Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples and former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell.

“Do you understand fans’ frustration about that answer?” Kanell asked.

“Sure do,” said Fisher, who led the Seminoles to a national championship in 2013.

Florida State president John Thrasher on Thursday said he hoped Fisher would remain with the school, but he said he would understand if Fisher took advantage of “more valuable” opportunities available to him.

“I really don’t have a lot of comment about that. We’re working,” Thrasher said during a Thursday interview with The Florida Channel.

“Jimbo is a great guy. He’s a great football coach. And my hope would be he would stay at Florida State University, but I would also understand … if he has other opportunities that are more valuable to him and his family.”

As for a timeframe to put an end to the rumors surrounding Fisher potentially leaving Florida State for Texas A&M, Fisher said a decision would come after the season.

“Well I’ma coach, we’re coaching through this game,” Fisher said during the radio appearance, “and then we always make decisions at the end of the year after things are finished.”

Fisher said the Seminoles players have been steadfastly focused on their game preparation for ULM in a game that could help FSU extend the nation’s longest bowl game streak to 36 years with a win. A bowl victory would also extend FSU’s streak of winning season to 41 years.

“The guys have been awesome,” Fisher said. “I’ve talked to Derwin [James]. I’ve talked with everybody. The guys have been awesome and they’re practicing well. You can tell by their actions and how they’re practicing.”

Fisher also expressed remorse for a Florida State fan being shoved out of his radio show on Wednesday night for asking a question regarding Fisher’s loyalty to the FSU program.

“I was going to answer the question,” Fisher said.

“And I’ll say this, I don’t think they should’ve did what they did. The man asked a question, and he deserves an answer, and I would’ve gladly answered. And I’m sorry that we did that.”

Fisher told media Thursday night that he did not answer the question because host Gene Deckerhoff moved onto the next phase of the show after the incident.

What would Fisher’s answer have been to the fan, who asked “where is the loyalty, Jimbo?”

“I am loyal,” Fisher said during the radio appearance. “We’re busting our tails 16 hours a day in coaching this season for the best possible season these kids can have. Our loyalty right now… no decision has been made anywhere. And what we’re doing right now is busting our tails for these kids to have a bowl game and to keep this legacy alive.”

FSU is reviewing the matter between the fan and marketing assistant that shoved him twice while escorting him out of the show, according to a statement released by the school Thursday night.

Fisher finished his session with local media saying “no” when asked if there was anything he could have done differently before getting to this tumultuous point in his career at the school.

“No,” Fisher said. “We’re trying to finish the season, and win the game, and get to a bowl game.”
