Believing the team was spiraling out of control, the Giants fired coach and general manager

With the team reeling at 2-10 in a season when many felt it was capable of challenging for a Super Bowl, co-owners and

reached the decision Monday morning. It came less than a day after the Giants lost at Oakland, with quarterback benched and the offense performing poorly again.

“We agreed that wholesale changes to this organization needed to be made to get us back to the team we expect it to be,” Mara said. “We also agreed it was pointless to wait any longer to make these changes.” Defensive coordinator

will take over as interim coach for the final four games.

Boswell’s FG lifts Steelers: Chris Boswell kicked a field goal on the final play shortly after Antonio Brown caught a 6-yard touchdown pass — taking a hit to the head while landing in the end zone — and the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off another improbable comeback against the host Cincinnati Bengals (5-7), rallying for a 23-20 victory Monday night.

Down 17-0 early, the Steelers (10-2) extended their best start since 2004 in a physical game with a couple frightening injuries. Brown's touchdown tied it at 20 with 3:51 to go, setting up Boswell's 38yard field goal, his second straight winner in the closing seconds.

Gronk to sit one game: The NFL suspended Patriots TE

one game for a late, gratuitous hit to the head of Bills defensive back

Gronkowski will miss the Patriots’ game against the Dolphins on Monday night.

White was lying face down on the sideline after intercepting a pass Sunday when Gronkowski bodyslammed him, driving his forearm into White’s back and head.

Gronkowski was called for unnecessary roughness, but because of retaliation from the Bills there was no penalty assessed. His agent,

said Gronkowski will appeal the punishment.

When Broncos fly: Broncos coach has conceded the postseason is lost but he won’t give up on the last four games of the regular season.

The rookie coach said the Broncos (3-9) haven’t quit despite an eight-game losing streak.

“I don’t believe that at all,” Joseph said. “I always watch the last five to 10 plays, and I show those guys those plays and I show them the guys flying around. That’s proof that guys are still playing to win.”

The Broncos are one loss from tying the franchise record for most consecutive losses in a season. The club record for most consecutive losses is 11, set over the 1963 and ’64 seasons.
