Duval amped for Father/Son

-

David Duval won the British Open and The Players Championship and was the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer, but he said winning last year’s PNC Father/Son Challenge was as big a thrill as any he experienced.

“It felt spectacular, as fulfilling as any,” he said. “Had I won the Players or Open two years ago I might not have the same answer. But when you’re on the back end of your career, 18 years removed from those things, it’s a huge thing.”

Duval and Nick Karavities will defend their title starting Saturday at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.

The field will include golfers who’ve won more than 500 PGA Tour, European Tour and PGA TOUR Champions events and 57 majors.

There are nine members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, including Bernhard Langer.

He has won the Father/ Son Challenge three times, twice with son Stefan and once with his 17-year-old son Jason.

Langner, who has seven Champions wins this season, will team with Jason this weekend.

‘It is really a week to celebrate family and enjoy the environment and enjoy the fact I have two of my kids here, I have my wife and a few friends. That’s what its about,” Langner said. “It’s almost the Olympic idea, to be here is great, if we do well then that’s great but just to be a part of it, paired with my son and some of golf legends of the game.”

That list includes Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Nick Price, Lee Janzen, Greg Norman, Lee Trevino and John Daly.

“We’re as ready as we can be,” Duval said. “Would I be prepared to go and play in a U.S. Open, no. But I’ve done what I could to be ready for this week.”

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Justin Rose shot a 10-under 62 Thursday to take a twostroke lead after the first round of the Indonesian Masters.

Rose, starting on the back nine at Royale Jakarta Golf Club, had five birdies to go out in 31, then birdied four of five holes midway through his final nine and another birdie on his last hole in the $750,000 tournament.

Brandt Snedeker shot 72. Ranked 51st in the world, the American is aiming for a strong finish in Jakarta to move inside the top 50 by the end of the year and ensure a spot in next year's Masters.
