‘Voice’ victor crowned

-

Chloe Kohanski is the Season 13 champion of “The Voice.”

Kohanski, a raspyvoiced rocker from Nashville, Tenn., was declared the winner of NBC’s popular singing contest Tuesday night at the end of the show’s two-hour finale. She edged out 16-year-old Indiana native Addison Agen, a folk prodigy.

The decision, rendered by the voting audience, continued Blake Shelton’s run of success as a coach on “The Voice.” It was the sixth time one of his singers landed in the winner’s circle.

Pop-soul powerhouse Brooke Simpson took third place, and country singer Red Marlow finished fourth.

Kohanski, 23, had been considered the show’s front-runner for much of the season. She actually was part of Miley Cyrus’ team in the early going, but when Cyrus didn’t pick her to advance during the knockout rounds, Kohanski joined Shelton’s team.

From there, she proceeded to make a steady rise to the top, notching several No.1 showings on the iTunes charts and generating millions of views on YouTube throughout her run, which included much-praised covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” and “Landslide.”

During Tuesday’s finale, she teamed up with veteran rocker Billy Idol to perform a very different version of “White Wedding.”

Kohanski, who previously worked at a coffee shop as she embarked on a solo career, now has a recording contract with Universal Music Group.
