Time is running out to apply for advisory board

What a gift this season. Dozens upon dozens of residents throughout our region have applied for a seat on the Orlando Sentinel’s Editorial Advisory Board. Interest in how the Editorial Board makes its decisions on content and institutional positions appears to be thriving.

Soon we’ll choose just six applicants to comprise our 2018 community board. We’ll meet with members at the Sentinel’s downtown office twice a month, where they’ll offer critiques of our Opinion pages, learn the inner-workings of the Editorial Board and the newsroom, share news of their communities and comment on broader issues.

They also will be expected to express their views by writing letters to the editor and columns — with no limitations on how often they can be published.

We launched our inaugural board two years ago, and this month we said goodbye to our second board. We’ll accept applications through Dec. 31. If you have applied the past two years, consider yourself a candidate. Two caveats for applicants: You must be comfortable with your writing skills, and be available for daytime meetings at the Sentinel office in downtown Orlando.

We’ll choose our third board in January.
