Stelling led Apopka to fifth state crown

Buzz: Stelling reached the final four of the individual state tournament and led Apopka to its fifth straight state team title. He averaged 229 pins per game at state, including a 299 that made him one of only eight bowlers to post a 299 or 300 in state tourney history.

Did you know: As the anchor for Apopka, Stelling threw two strikes and added nine pins in the 10th and final frame of the team bracket state final. That gave the Blue Darters the victory by two pins.

All-Area

Ryan Bare, Circle Christian, Sr.

Buzz: Averaged 205 in regular season and finished third at the state tournament.

Logan Furlong, Hagerty, Jr.

Buzz: Led Seminole County and owned area’s best regular season average (215).

Lance High, Lake Mary, Jr.

Buzz: 200 regular season average, District 6 champ (654) and 807 state qualifying total.

Keith Horton, Apopka, Sr. Buzz: Top qualifier (935) and top seven finisher at state; 211 regular season average. Christian McKenzie, Lyman, Sr.

Buzz: Top five at state, losing to Stelling and Bare in bracket. Bowled 263 in qualifying.

Christophe­r Syfrett, Orlando University, Sr.

Buzz: District 8 runner-up qualified 11th at state with a 255 game and 864 series. Hunter Taylor, Winter Springs, Soph.

Buzz: District 6 runner-up (637) was No. 22 qualifyer in state tournament (830). Tanner Vogel, Cypress Creek, Jr. Buzz: District 8 champ with 690; No. 25 in state qualifying at 824. Ryan Ward, South Lake, Soph. Buzz: Averaged 213 in regular season and qualified 10th at state with 865 series.

Super Six

1. Apopka: Fifth straight state championsh­ip. No other school has won three in a row. 2. Mainland: District runner-up Buccaneers were second to Apopka at the state tournament. 3. Seabreeze: Sandcrabs beat Mainland for District 2 title and were top five at state. 4. Lyman: Greyhounds placed in the top 12 at the state tournament. 5. West Orange: Warriors were District 7 runners-up to Apopka; No. 9 in state qualifying play. 6. Oviedo: Lions topped Lyman for District 6 title; No. 12 in state qualifying round.
