Peters faults self for suspension

-

Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters said he chose to throw an officials’ flag in frustration during a loss to the Jets, so he had nobody to blame but himself for the resulting one-game suspension.

The Pro Bowl alternate spoke to reporters Friday for the first time since the incident three weeks ago.

Peters missed the Chiefs’ win over the Raiders two weeks ago while serving coach Andy Reid’s suspension, but returned last week against the Chargers to pick off two passes and force a fumble in a 30-13 victory.

The win left the Chiefs needing only to beat the Dolphins to win the AFC West.

Fox monkeys around: Bears coach John Fox offered an attention-grabbing nugget during his weekly “Coffee with Coach” video on the team website.

Fox, it turns out, once had a pet monkey.

“It was a little woolly monkey,” Fox told “Coffee with Coach” host Lauren

Screeden. “Her name was Gidget. She was like part of the family. She wore Pampers and she would swing around.”

Fox revealed that personal detail when asked about the most unusual Christmas gift he ever had received. Naturally, reporters at Fox’s Friday news conference needed additional detail.

“That’s a real story,” Fox asserted. “I actually have pictures to prove it. … One year we had gone down to my grandparents’. They had a home down in Marathon Key, Fla. So on the way back up from that we happened to stop at a pet store. In those days, that was all legal. It was aboveboard. I don’t think they’re selling too many of those things now.

“But, yeah, she was a great pet.”
