Quintana runs and can ride the waves

Noah Quintana, Sr. Lake Minneola

■ Buzz: Quintana was the area’s top finisher at state, placing sixth in the 4A race with a time of 15 minutes, 53 seconds in the 5K (3.1 mile) course. He ran the area’s second fastest time in FHSAA competitio­n this year with a 15:39 en route to winning the 4A, District 3 race.

■ Did you know: Quintana is also an avid surfer, often leaving his house at 4 a.m. to make it to the beach in time. He went out to Cocoa while Hurricane Irma was offshore to surf its 10 foot swells back in September.

Bryce Bell, Lyman, Sr.

■ Buzz: Ran a 15:53 to finish fifth at FSU; 14th in the 4A state meet (16:10). Timothy Doyle, Freedom, Sr. ■ Buzz: Ran area’s fastest time (15:34) to win 4A, District 4; 18th at state (16:16). Kayamo Galloway, Oviedo, Soph.

■ Buzz: Ran season-best 15:52 to win region title; placed 11th at state (16:03). Kyler Hodges, Lyman, Sr. ■ Buzz: Ran personal record 15:59 for fourth in 4A, Region 1; 19th at state (16:18).

Tristen Montalvo, St. Cloud, Sr. ■ Buzz: Ran personal record 15:51 for fourth at FSU; 21st at state (16:20). Luis Ortiz, Dr. Phillips, Sr. ■ Buzz: Ran 15:41 at district, 16:04 at state for 12th. Won FACA All-Star Classic. Canaan St. Lewis, Lake Mary, Jr. ■ Buzz: District runner-up at 15:57; placed 13th in 4A state meet (16:06). Trent Turbyfill, Trinity Prep, Sr.

■ Buzz: Ran 15:57 at state for 11th in 2A; career-best 15:36 at Nike Cross regional. Richard Woodruff, Trinity Prep, Sr.

■ Buzz: District champ and Saints top state finisher with personal best 15:57 for tenth.

Super Six

1. Oviedo: Won program’s first state title with five runners in 44-second pack. 2. Trinity Prep: Four-peat state streak snapped as Saints were third in fast 2A final. 3. Mount Dora Christian: Bulldogs won 1A championsh­ip with 16:56 average and return everybody. 4. Lyman: Seniors Bryce Bell and Kyler Hodges paced Greyhounds to ninth in 4A. 5. Dr. Phillips: Panthers came in 11th at 4A state meet with a 17:10 team average. 6. Lake Mary: Rams finished 12th at 4A state meet with a 17:08 team average.
