Disney reveals images of new ‘Star Wars’ land
Star Wars fans gathered at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Dec. 16 and were rewarded with a few new images of the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land coming in 2019.
Disney creative executive Scott Trowbridge shared the images on the Disney Parks Blog, and detailed the event he attended alongside Imagineers Robin Reardon and Chris Beatty as well as Lucasfilm designer Doug Chiang.
“We talked a lot about authenticity — how we are building a real place in the Star Wars universe and how we are working hard to get the details right,” Trowbridge wrote on the blog.
Those details include an image of the hallways inside the Millennium Falcon, which is the star of one of the two rides coming to the 14-acre expansion at the Walt Disney World park as well as Disneyland.
Also coming to the parks will be full-size Xwing replicas.
Trowbridge also showed a new rendering for one of the marketplace stalls, inspired by Chiang ’s research at the markets of Istanbul and Marrakech.
This one is run by a “Toydarian,” which Trowbridge said was introduced in the film “Episoide I: The Phantom Menace” on Tatooine.
A Toydarian sells toys, and the rendering shows unique Star Wars toys that are promised to be exclusive.
“All these offerings look hand-crafted by local artisans. We looked at some of them recently and they’re going to be really fun, unique, and completely in-story,” Trowbridge wrote.
In both Florida and California, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will feature the two signature rides: one in which visitors can pilot the Millennium Falcon and another that puts visitors in the midst of a battle between The First Order and the Resistance.
The land will also feature shops and restaurants for an immersive Star Wars experience. It’s the largest expansion of any theme park Disney has ever undertaken.
The Disneyland version will open ahead of Florida’s version.
