UCF deserves to be called national champion.

-

I have watched the University of Central Florida compete in many games this season, and I am beside myself at the current Associated Press poll ranking UCF as No. 10 below Auburn (which UCF beat on Monday). How did we get here?

I agree with the UCF athletic director’s declaring us a national champion regardless of what these “chosen few” have decided. It’s obvious that this system of a Power 5 conference is broken when an undefeated team does not get the opportunity to play in the national championship. What if this were the Seminoles or the Gators? I’m quite sure that we wouldn’t even get to that point.

Our hometown team has proved again and again this year that they deserve the opportunity at the big dance. Why doesn’t the College Football Playoff system use a system much like basketball? Why doesn’t it pit the winner of the upcoming game against UCF and see who the true national champion is? It’s time for our hometown team to get the respect from others who deem themselves such “experts” in the CFP system.

Until then, Knight fans will continue to support and fight for respect for our guys. They deserve all the accolades they have coming to them, and then some. Thank you to Coach Scott Frost for righting our ship, and thank you to the players who put in the hard work to become our national champions. Kellie Hansen Winter Park
