- By Matthew J. Palm

Drip, the performance-art troupe that has made a home on International Drive since 2012, will close its theater later this month, founder and creative director Jessica Mariko announced today on the company’s website.

“Closing this location is bittersweet but exciting for our team,” she said. “We put a huge amount of passion into everything created in that space and have amazing memories from the team interacting with the guests.

“We had terrific experiences over the last five years and are eager to re-focus and inject our creativity into the next project.”

Located at 8747 International Drive — to the rear of a building that houses a Senor Frogs and Denny’s — Drip’s International Drive theater has been home to more than 700 shows, artistic events, concerts, festivals, fashion shows, private parties and corporate events, Mariko said.

Among the venue’s special events were a superhero show during the Megacon Convention, the Underground Vampire Bar experience in October, Gay Days programs and local art showcases.

Designed with an underground bar vibe, the edgy shows featured modern dance, water effects and colorful paint.

Remaining performances will be Friday and Saturday nights through Jan. 27.

Guests can get $25 tickets (regularly $44) by entering promo code: FINALSPLASH at www.ILoveDRIP.com. Shows are restricted to patrons 18 and older, except Jan. 19, when minors will be admitted if accompanied by guardians.

Guests are advised to dress casually in shorts, T-shirts and flip-flops.

Drip, which has worked with corporations such as Timex, Siemens, L’Oreal, Wrestlemania and Kawasaki, will be developing future projects, Mariko said. “We appreciate our fans,” she said, “and are looking forward to playing with them again soon.”
