Altamonte gets a bit posh at Fig’s Prime
Fig’s Prime goes beyond the traditional steakhouse dishes with Mediterranean flavors. With its luxe atmosphere, Fig’s brings a swanky dining option to Altamonte Springs. What I would try a second time
The 8-ounce prime sirloin ($28) was cooked to a tender, juicy medium for my guest, who opted to add macaroni and cheese to the included sides of creamy mashed potatoes and a mix of vegetables. That velvety addition was a good call. What I didn’t like
A nicely fried crust surrounded the warm, gooey cheese, making for a spoton goat cheese croquettes appetizer ($11) — at least texture-wise. The dish relied a little too heavily on the accompanying caramelized onions, pears and figs for flavor, however. What I would put on Instagram
The Mediterranean Seafood Zuppa ($37) attracted the eye — and the stomach — with a bowl of beautifully cooked wheels of calamari, clams, mussels, shrimp and a succulent lobster tail. Garlicky crostinis helped sop up the marinara sauce warmed by spices. Other eats
Black truffle oil was liberally used to flavor and perfume the beef carpaccio appetizer ($12). Meltin-your-mouth circles of beef were additionally topped with capers, onions, shaved Parmesan and an unnecessary nest of arugula.
The chocolate mousse cake wasn’t as light as might be expected, but it was a nice sweet end to the meal. How I was treated Our engaging and attentive server only positively influenced our dining experience. My next visit
The lunch menu is tempting me to make a weekday drive up to Altamonte Springs. It looks awfully tasty with smaller (and cheaper) portions of dinner entrees in addition to selections such as the Chef’s Choice burger (fried onions, mushrooms, avocado and sun-dried tomato aioli on an 8-ounce patty for $12). For bar-hoppers
The wine menu is a bit smaller than what you would expect at a self-proclaimed wine bar, but the selection is well-varied.
Wine is definitely the focus at Fig’s Prime, but a few macro-beer options and a full liquor bar are offered as well. For those with special diets
The menu at Fig’s Prime is more friendly to vegetarians than vegans. Gluten-free diners may fare better. ldelgado@orlando sentinel.com
