Patients’ bill of rights means a standard of care.

I read the article “Nursing home bill of rights proposed” in the Feb. 4 Sentinel regarding the proposal to have a bill of rights for people who live in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities in Florida. As a mental-health therapist who works with people who live in these facilities, I support the proposal. Although many of these facilities do a good job of taking good care of their residents, there are some that do not provide the proper care for their clients.

Like the proposal explains, a bill of rights for these residents would assure that a minimum standard of care would be provided, and that any violation to the resident’s rights would be properly attended to by state constituti­onal law. Emmanuel Padin Orlando
