Stop Trump’s parade planning

-

After watching Donald Trump run his campaign using insults and childish names for his opponents, I was truly astounded when he was elected as our president.

When he began to put military officers in place, I breathed a sigh of relief, believing they could guide his thinking in a clear manner and possibly have him address people in an adult way.

Staffing with military officers of the caliber of Gens. John Kelly, James Mattis and Joseph Dunford and Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster gave rise to high hopes. Suddenly those high hopes are gone after seeing that they have done nothing to control the whim of a president who wants to have a military parade of the type that we see at the Kremlin and North Korea and in other dictator countries.

As a retired Air Force NCO, I hope that other veterans will join me in expressing disgust at the planning of this spectacle and make a strong effort to stop it.

I agree with Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, retired, who has made the strongest statement as to why this should not occur: “The military is not Donald Trump’s to use and abuse in this way.” Daniel Lucey Orange City
