-

The Orlando Magic signed shooting guard to a second 10-day contract Sunday.

Purvis has played in all five of the Magic’s games since the team called him up from their Lakeland GLeague affiliate and signed him to his first 10-day deal on March 8.

In 11.5 minutes per game with Orlando, Purvis has averaged 3.8 points. He has made two of his 10 attempts from 3-point range.

During his stint in Lakeland, he averaged 20.5 points and 3.5 assists per game and sank 38.9 percent of his 3-point attempts.

The Magic intend to allocate an increasing number of minutes to youngsters such as and Purvis over their final 12 games.

Orlando ranks last among NBA teams in defensive rebounding percentage — a metric that shows the percentage of available defensive rebounds a team collects. The Magic have gathered only 75.1 percent of available defensive rebounds this season. The league’s best defensiverebounding team, the Charlotte Hornets, have scooped up 81.2 percent of their opportunities.

Boston hauled in 16 offensive boards in its win over Orlando and, as a result, outscored Orlando 20-8 in second-chance points.

“Our guys were playing extremely hard, defending at a high level, forcing a ton of misses,” Magic coach said.

“They shot 37 percent from the field, but we didn’t finish possessions. They shoot a ton of 3s. A lot of those were long rebounds. We talked about that prior to the game: that we can’t run under the rim because the ball will bounce over our heads. And that happened a number of times.”

Vogel and his assistant coaches have preached the importance of boxing out all season long, but the message hasn’t gotten through well enough.

The Celtics entered the game averaging only 9.2 offensive boards per game.

“These guys, they’re just tough,” Isaac said, referring to the Celtics. “Being undersized with me being in there in the starting group with

and tough to box out and stick ’em.” But, as Isaac explained,

the Celtics’ 6-1 point guard, collected four boards, some of them off long-range shots. it’s The Magic had Sunday off. They won’t play again until Tuesday, when they’ll host the Toronto Raptors at Amway Center. The Magic didn’t play their first game against the Raptors this season until Feb. 28. The Magic also will play the Raptors on April 8 in Toronto. The Raptors are the only team the Magic will play twice over the final 12 games.

Through 70 games last season, the Magic held a 25-45 record. Through 70 games this season, the Magic are 21-49.
