Knights add new series with Cardinals

- By Shannon Green

Former American Athletic Conference foes UCF and Louisville are set to square off again in 2021.

The Knights announced a home-andhome series starting on the road against the Cardinals. UCF will travel to Louisville for a Sept. 18 game in 2021 and follow that up with a home game in Orlando 2022.

The schools were conference partners for just a year in 2013 before Louisville jumped to the Atlantic Coast Conference. It will be just the third meeting between the programs when they meet in 2021, with UCF taking the last victory, a thrilling 38-35 road win before the Knights claimed a Fiesta Bowl victory over Baylor on Sept. 17, in the final year of the BCS system.

Before 2013, UCF traveled to Louisville in 1985, where the team dropped a 42-21 contest during Gene McDowell’s inaugural season.

Scheduling home-andhome series against Power 5 programs has been a top priority for UCF athletics director Danny White. Landing a series against Louisville following a 13-0 season by the Knights is considered a huge positive for the school, which has often struggled to schedule home-and-home series against programs like Louisville.

UCF’s rival USF also has a two-to-one roadgame series against Louisville on the books. The Bulls will travel to the Cardinals’ place in 2022 and 2026 and will host Louisville in 2024.
