Flyers issue payback

-

Sean Couturier had a goal and two assists, Brian Elliott stopped 34 shots and the Flyers cooled off the Penguins 5-1 on Friday night in Pittsburgh to even the Eastern Conference first-round series at a game each.

Shane Gostisbehere, Travis Konecny, Andrew McDonald and Nolan Patrick also scored for the Flyers, who bounced back from an embarrassing 7-0 loss in the opener to beat the Penguins for the first time this season.

Game 3 is Sunday in Philadelphia.

Patric Hornqvist scored the Penguins’ lone goal with just over five minutes left to avoid the shutout. Goaltender Matt Murray’s shutout streak dating to last year’s Stanley Cup Final ended at 226 minutes, 49 seconds on Gostisbehere’s power-play goal.

The loss was Murray’s third in his last 17 playoff starts at home.

Paul Stastny, Andrew Copp and Patrik Laine scored in the third period and the Jets beat the Wild 4-1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference first-round series.

Defenseman Tyler Myers added a goal and an assist for the Jets. Rookie Jack Roslovic, playing in place of injured veteran Mathieu Perreault, had two assists in the game, which ended with a series of fights.

Zach Parise had his second goal of the series when he deflected Mikko Koivu’s shot past Connor Hellebuyck to end the Jets goalie’s shutout bid with 45 seconds left. Hellebuyck made 16 saves.

Devan Dubnyk stopped 39 shots for the Wild.

The NHL suspended Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri three games for boarding Bruins forward Tommy Wingels during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first-round series Thursday.

Kadri was assessed a major penalty for charging and game misconduct midway through the third period in the Maple Leafs’ 5-1 loss. Seconds after Wingels caught forward Mitch Marner with a high hit, Kadri left his feet and drove the kneeling Wingels’ head into the boards.

Kadri was suspended for the fourth time in his career.
