But the two-time defending state tennis champion took a soothing ice bath at home after playing four tennis matches on Thursday and said she’s ready to roll.

“I took an ice bath once before and I literally couldn’t stand it and got out,” Wolfberg said. “But it was good tonight. My legs are a lot less sore. I’m excited. I’m ready.”

She better be. Wolfberg, who is ranked No. 1 in Florida’s 18s age group and as the nation’s No. 7 college prospect in the Class of 2019 by Tennis Recruiting, will play for her third consecutive state singles title today at 11 a.m. at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs. She’ll then make a 122-mile trip to Jacksonville to run a 4x400-meter relay prelim at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Florida in Jacksonville.

“I’m super-excited. It’s going to feel more like a college meet because I’ll be practicing there every day next year,” Thompson said after he nearly succeeded on two attempts to clear 16-1 in his Region 1 victory last week at Flagler Palm Coast. In the wake of a controversial ruling on a region final, two all-Central Florida semifinals are qeued up for today’s water polo state tournament at Ransom Everglades in Miami.

Olympia, which won the girls state championship last season, sends its 27-2 boys team to Miami this time to face Lake Nona (22-6) in a 7 p.m. boys semifinal. It’s the first final four berth for the Olympia boys program.

A 4 p.m. girls game pits a youthful Lake Nona (23-5) squad against Lake Mary (24-4), which was declared the Region 1 winner by the FHSAA after referees mistakenly allowed its game vs. Winter Park last Saturday to go to triple-overtime.

Winter Park was initially reported as a 7-6 winner but the FHSAA ruled Lake Mary the victor by a 5-4 score because it scored the first goal in what by rule was supposed to be a suddenvictory overtime.

Lake Mary had to wait out a Tuesday afternoon emergency appeal hearing for Winter Park, where the FHSAA’s board of directors upheld its administrative ruling.

“I’m trying to get a group of 18 girls who’ve gone through a whirlwind of emotions in the past two days focused on moving forward and getting ready to go to these state games,” Rams coach said after the hearing.

It is the first trip to state for a Lake Mary girls water polo team since Baker was a standout senior for the Rams in 2007.

Lake Nona is making its seventh girls state tourney appearance in its nine years as a program and its fourth boys state trip under veteran coach
