TFA to take on nation’s No. 1

-

The First Academy plays the No. 1 baseball team in the country tonight, and the Royals are embracing the challenge.

TFA (20-8) travels for a 7 p.m. Class 4A region semifinal game at Calvary (27-0), which is riding a state-record 57-game winning streak and is rated No. 1 nationally in multiple polls.

Calvary edged TFA 3-2 in a region final a year ago, when the Warriors finished 30-0.

“The streak has got to end at some point and we’re just hoping it’s [Wednesday] night,” First Academy coach said. “Everybody expects us to go in there in and lose, so we really have nothing to lose. We’re just going to play relaxed and see where the chips may fall.”

Winners of Class 4A through 1A games today advance to region finals next Tuesday.
