Spring game is scoreless
Take your pick in trying to explain Thursday night’s scoreless spring football game between perennial Central Florida powers Osceola and Bishop Moore.
It might have been due to two inexperienced offenses that lost numerous key players to graduation, or could have been caused by two really good defenses. Or maybe you blame it on a week’s worth of rains that made the field a messy quagmire.
Whatever the reason, the Kowboys and Hornets wrapped up spring drills by playing to a 0-0 tie.
“I can’t remember being involved in a 0-0 game, but certainly would not fault our effort,” Bishop Moore coach
said. “We just could not finish our opportunities and that had a lot to do with the defense we were facing.”
Weather conditions prompted the Florida High School Athletic Association to again postpone the start of its state softball tournament in Vero Beach — four days after it revised the schedule for an event that originally was to begin two days ago.
West Orange and Timber Creek in Class 9A and Hagerty in 8A are the area programs affected. Semifinal games for 5A through 9A have been shifted from Saturday to Tuesday, with finals now set for Wednesday at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
Class 1A-4A semifinals and finals, which include area programs Montverde Academy and Cornerstone Charter, remain scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.
