Schumer and Pelosi — stop trying to make Trump fail

-

Think about divisiveness in Washington, D.C. We hear it, and we see it. However, the source of most of this has been improperly identified. There are those, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, among others, who blame all of it on the president. That could be partially true — I, too, wish the tweeting would stop — but most blame lies with leaders of the Democrats, both of whom I just identified.

For over a year, one or the other, or both, have immediately criticized something President Trump has said or done. It’s as if they already had speeches prepared, regardless of facts. Case in point: Schumer, discussing tax reform, constantly stated it only benefited the rich. He never mentioned doubling the personal exemption, increasing the child credit or, among others, increasing families’ paychecks. They were surprised when companies gave employees bonuses of $1,000 or more. This benefited millions of workers, who were happy to get them. Pelosi referred to those amounts as crumbs. I guess if you are a multimillionaire, as she is, that amount would seem like “crumbs.”

Many of us, on both sides of the aisle, feel these two will do anything to criticize everything the president does. That doesn’t prevent divisiveness; it perpetuates it because those of us outside Washington begin to want those two, and their minions, to fail at everything they try. That, too, isn’t the way it should go.

On the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the Democrats were to get twice as much as they wanted — a proposal by the president. Even so, they found a way to keep the bill from passing because it also contained something Trump wanted.

The press cannot be excused. Most “news” focuses on something personal about the president. A recent major TV news outlet spent most of 30 minutes on such things instead of reporting on North Korea, our border, and other nationally important things. Their “news” is too often based on what gives “them” the best ratings — not what gives “us” important news.

Until all entities stop trying to make the president fail, there will still be divisiveness and we, the people, want it to stop. These two, Schumer and Pelosi, can make that happen. They should remember the quote of the man they idolize, President Obama, when he said, truthfully, “Elections have consequences.” It was true then and it is true now. They need to remember that.
