Pressure at the gasoline pump is continuing to ease in Orlando and across the nation.

Fuel prices dipped 8.6 cents per gallon in the past week in Orlando to average $2.69 a gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 856 stations in Orlando.

The national average that has fallen 3.1 cents per gallon over last week to $2.91, according to GasBuddy.

Since peaking at $2.92 on May 25, gas prices have declined 16 consecutive days for 11 cents, according to the AAA auto club in Tampa.

“Gasoline prices continue to fade after peaking just ahead of Memorial Day, largely in part due to previous discussion that OPEC may lift output, pushing oil prices back down to the mid-$60s,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “As we’ve been expecting for months, gas prices will likely decline in the month of June as summer gasoline inventories continue to build and refiners continue to crank out fuels like gasoline and diesel. A solid majority of states saw average gas prices decline last week, and I expect we’ll hold that trajectory again this week.”

Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA, said Saudi Arabia increased production last month by 100,000 barrels a day, after curtailing output by nearly two years.

U.S. crude prices settled at $65.74 per barrel on Friday, a 7 cent drop from a week ago, and $6.50 less than this year's high, AAA reported.

“Gas prices could drop another 5 cents this week, unless the market suddenly shifts course,” Jenkins said. “Prices at the pump are still adjusting to the recent drop in oil and wholesale gasoline, due to the potential of increased crude output from OPEC. However, there is still volatility in the market, and pump prices could move higher if OPEC decides against easing production cuts at a meeting later this month.”

Though prices are dropping, consumers were paying much less for gasoline at this time last year and in 2017 — just $2.29 on average in Orlando for both years.

In 2016, however, the average was much higher at $3.43, GasBuddy reports.
