SunTrust Bank’s Orlando corporate offices are moving to a building under construction near its familiar, namesake downtown office tower.

A 28-story building under construction by Lincoln Property Co. at Garland Avenue and South Street will be called SunTrust Plaza at Church Street Station and become the new home of 90,000 square feet for SunTrust operations, the bank said in a news release Monday. For decades, its headquarters here have been spread across two office buildings on Orange Avenue, including the easily recognized 35-story SunTrust Center.

The move to Garland Avenue has been in the works for months, as first reported by GrowthSpotter, with building completion set for the middle of next year.

Located south of the Church Street Ballroom and alongside Interstate 4, the new tower had been called Church Street Plaza among other proposed names. The LEED Gold certified building will have 200,000 square feet of office space, an AC Hotel by Marriott, a SunRail station, meeting space and retail.

Other announced tenants include business consulting firm RSM and co-working provider E|Spaces. Lincoln Property did not immediately return a call for comment. Permitting to build the tower began in 2015. Orlandobased HuntonBrady is the architect.

SunTrust Center opened in 1988 just as Sun Bank was merging with Trust Co. of Georgia and became SunTrust Bank. It was purchased by Piedmont Operating Partnership in 2015. Leasing agent JLL referred a call for comment to Piedmont.

Staying near the center of things in downtown Orlando was key, said SunTrust Florida Division President Scott Cathcart.

“SunTrust Plaza at Church Street Station combines cuttingedge office space with a great balance of amenities for our clients and teammates, including a hotel and multiple transportation options,” he said in the release.

All employees at the current Orlando headquarters will move into the new building just to the southwest, Atlanta-based SunTrust said in a release.

Orlando Economic Partnership President and CEO Tim Giuliani said in the release that SunTrust “has demonstrated a long-term commitment to our community and shown exceptional dedication to building our local economy.”
