4 children slain — it’s time to pray

- Marcel Cornibert Apopka

I rose early Tuesday morning hoping to hear of a positive outcome concerning the hostage situation in West Orlando. A man was holding four children hostage; a police officer was shot; the children must have been terrified. I read the shooter committed suicide after killing the four children. I almost came to tears.

What could have been done differently?

Some will advocate for more gun control, but that’s not the answer. We live in a sinful world, and it may sound simplistic, but the answer is Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I have overcome the world.” Yes, I realize even Christians are capable of doing the most horrible things, but God gives man a choice: We can accept him or reject him. Even Christians don’t follow Jesus completely. But ask, would the world be a better place if everyone were a Christian? Can the love of God overcome hatred and anger?

Here is what we can do now: Pray for the mother who has lost four children; pray for Orlando Police Chief John Mina, who might be questioning if he could have done more.
