Man gets jail after dog dragged, killed

-

A man in Pensacola was sentenced to 90 days in jail Tuesday after his pit bull died from being dragged by his truck. Officials said on Aug. 11, witnesses saw Thomas Ward drive his truck while his pit bull was tied to the hitch, the Pensacola News-Journal reports. Witnesses followed Ward to his home and told authorities that they saw him take the “lifeless” dog into a shed. When officials retrieved the dog it was already dead, according to the report. A necropsy report showed that the dog died from asphyxiation and road-rash wounds. In addition to jail time, Ward also has been sentenced to one year of community control, two years of probation and ordered not to possess any animals.
