Premature child found under pot

-

A woman in Homestead faces child neglect and abuse charges after police said she gave birth to a premature baby girl and tried to hide the infant underneath an empty plant pot. Officers responded to the home of Martha Godinezdiaz, 20, on June 6 after relatives of the baby’s alleged father found the infant near a backyard shed. Godinezdiaz found out she was pregnant in April, and recently moved to South Florida from Guatemala to reunite with her boyfriend, WPLG reports. Godinezdiaz’s boyfriend told police that she was unsure if he was the father, and when he called her last week she was complaining of stomach pain. When the boyfriend got to Godinezdiaz’s home she told him she felt better, but once his parent confronted her they noticed a change in the size of her abdomen, according to WPLG. The boyfriend’s father then searched the backyard and found a 10-gallon plant pot on top of the baby girl with her feet still moving, police said.
