The Orlando Magic will actively look to add point guards once free agency begins July 1.

Orlando waived Shelvin Mack on Monday, hours before his full $6 million salary for the 2018-19 season was set to become fully guaranteed. With the move, the team must pay him just $1 million.

D.J. Augustin is the only remaining point guard on the Magic’s roster.

Magic officials will have to employ free agency and perhaps the trade market as they fill out their team’s needs at point guard.

Because of existing salary commitments, and also because of an expensive cap hold for restricted free-agent Aaron Gordon, the Magic are likely to have only limited avenues at their disposal in free agency. As things stand now, the Magic figure to have only the non-taxpayer mid-level exception of $8.57 million, the bi-annual exception of $3.35 million and minimum-salary exceptions available.

The pool of available point guards will include restricted free agent Fred VanVleet, restricted free agent Danté Exum, unrestricted free agent Jameer Nelson and unrestricted free agent Ramon Sessions.
