“Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story” generates strong reactions on social media.

The first episode of the docu-series “Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story” debuted Monday night on the Paramount Network where it stirred a mix of strong reactions on social media.

Viewers shared a range of emotions from anger and sadness to disbelief as the story of the unarmed Miami Gardens teenager who was killed on Feb. 26, 2012 during an incident with neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in Sanford, outside Orlando, was retold.

“His death.. his murder was the first to open my eyes and they have not closed ever since,’’ shared one viewer Jeneisha Harris on Twitter late Monday.

“The #TrayvonMartin documentary is hard to watch. Very hard,” added another viewer on Twitter Monday night.

And some viewers were thankful that the story was being retold on television.

The six-part series chronicles the life of the 17-year-old who was gunned down while visiting his father just outside Orlando.

The teenager’s parents Tracy Martin and Sabrina Fulton, who appear in the series, are executive producers on the project along with rapper Jay-Z.

“I always wanted Trayvon to be famous, but not in this manner,’’ Fulton told the Orlando Sentinel. “You ask yourself, ‘How can I get out of this news story?’ But there’s no getting out of the news story.”

The documentary also explores how the teen’s death became a catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement and a national debate on race relations.

The series revisits Zimmerman’s trial in 2013 when a jury acquitted him of second-degree murder under Florida’s “stand your ground” self-defense law. Zimmerman had claimed that he shot the teen in selfdefense. And the program also delves into how defense attorney Mark O’Mara prevailed over prosecutors.

The series will air over the next seven weeks. The next episode airs on Monday at 10 p.m.
