Gershwin cousin to speak in Lake

- By Matthew J. Palm Staff Writer

The Lakeside Chamber Players will welcome some special guests to their next performance, Aug. 12.

The Sovereign Brass, a local favorite, will be the featured entertainment. The ensemble, which consists of members of the Orlando Philharmonic, will play traditional brass repertoire and music by George Gershwin.

That brings us to the performance’s other special guest: Frankie Ross, first cousin of George and his equally celebrated brother Ira, will speak during the program.

Ross, who is 94, will talk about growing up with her famous cousin, as well as the importance of the arts and arts education, according to Janet Harris, executive director and bassoonist for Lakeside Chamber Players.

The concert will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Lake Receptions, 4425 N. Highway 19A, Mount Dora. Refreshments, including a full bar, will be available for purchase. Tickets are $30 at lcpclassical.com.
