In a 911 call
‘The man is not right,’ caller says of the accused in wife’s death
released Friday, a woman frantically pleads with authorities, asking them to hurry as 75-year-old Elue Watson sat in his parked car on the train tracks near Lake Mary Boulevard and Country Club Road after he allegedly killed his wife.
Shortly after Elue Watson killed his 82-year-old wife with a machete, police say, he drove to a railroad crossing, then down the tracks. He turned off his car’s lights and stood on the rails.
In a 911 call released Friday by the Sanford Police Department, a woman watching Watson frantically pleads with authorities the night of Aug. 10, asking them to hurry to the tracks near Lake Mary Boulevard and Country Club Road.
A freight train had just passed by on the tracks next to Watson’s car, the witness said, and she was afraid it wouldn’t be long before another train came barreling toward the 75-year-old Sanford man. “The man is not right,” the caller tells dispatchers. “He turned the lights off on his car and everything. Please hurry.”
When officers arrived, they noticed blood on Watson’s shirt. A machete was later found inside his car, they said. In two short videos released by authorities, Watson can be seen sitting on the tracks, surrounded by officers. He speaks softly and is hard to understand.
Watson told authorities that he had killed his wife, Alice Watson, and that they should go to the couple’s Sycamore Court home to check on her, according to an arrest report.
Authorities found the woman’s body tied to her bed with several deep cuts. Police have not released a motive.
Watson was booked into the Seminole County Jail on Wednesday, after several days in the hospital because of high blood pressure, authorities said. He faces charges of premeditated first-degree murder and kidnapping and is being held without bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 25.
