Gillum will talk to Tom Joyner, ‘Meet the Press’

Andrew Gillum, the Democrat candidate for Florida governor, has major appearance­s lined up.

He will be a guest today on “The Tom Joyner Show,” a national radio show that will be broadcasti­ng from Kissimmee. The Tom Joyner Family Reunion, an event for African-American families, unfolds there this Labor Day Weekend.

Gillum will be a guest in the 7 a.m. hour, and he will appear before a live audience at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center, 6000 W. Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee.

The broadcast is open to the public and free. Doors open at 5 a.m. “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” will broadcast 6-10 a.m. Joyner, one of the most influentia­l voices in the African-American community, is heard on more than 90 stations. Friday will be College Day at the Joyner reunion, and White House correspond­ent April Ryan of American Urban Radio Networks also will be a guest at 11:15 a.m. She is promoting the book “Under Fire” about covering the Trump White House.

Gillum will be a guest on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” which airs at 9 a.m. Sunday on WESH-Channel 2. Gillum, the mayor of Tallahasse­e, stunned the political world by winning the Democratic primary Tuesday.

He will face Republican Congressma­n Ron DeSantis in November.

Other guests on “Meet the Press” will be Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska. The panel will be: Kimberly Atkins of The Boston Herald; Matthew Continetti, editor-in-chief of Washington Free Beacon; Mark Leibovich of The New York Times Magazine and author of “Big Game: The NFL in Dangerous Times”; and Amy Walter of The Cook Political Report.
