SeaWorld makes it

easy to get up close to its resident sea lions.

SeaWorld Orlando offers guests a unique opportunit­y to learn more about sea lions and seals, as well as take a peek at their care and training at the theme park with its Sea Lions Up-Close Tour.

Here are some interestin­g tidbits about sea lions, seals and their exhibit at SeaWorld, courtesy of Katie Grabey, an instructor in SeaWorld’s animal programs department.

■ Two species are present in the Pacific Point Preserve exhibit: California sea lions and harbor seals.

■ The exhibit replicates the California coastline.

■ There are about 100 animals in the exhibit; sea lions are the majority with about 85-90 residing there.

■ There have been 14 sea lion and seal pups born at SeaWorld this summer.

■ The exhibit contains about 600,000 gallons of manmade saltwater and has a wave pool. Its water depth ranges from 0-9 feet.

■ There are nine different sea lions that play Clyde and Seamore in the Sea Lion High show.

■ One way to tell sea lions and seals apart is their ears. Sea lions have an ear flap, while seals just have an ear hole.

■ A sea lion lives for about 30-35 years.

■ Sea lions can tell which pup is theirs based on vocalizati­ons.
