- By Steven Lemongello

The first U.S. Senate debates between U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and Gov. Rick Scott have been set.

Nelson and Scott will face off in Miami on Oct. 2, the Nelson campaign announced. The hour-long debate will be broadcast on Telemundo stations in Orlando, Miami, Fort Myers, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. The debate is scheduled to be moderated by Telemundo 51 reporter Marilys Llanos and WTVJ-6 anchor Jackie Nespral.

Late Tuesday, the campaign also announced a second debate on CNN on Oct. 16. No times were announced for either debate.

Scott “is going to have to start answering for the poor job he's done as governor and how he's enriched himself in public office,” Nelson said on Twitter.

Before the Nelson campaign announcement Monday night, Scott’s campaign criticized Nelson for not accepting Scott’s challenges to debate.
