Jones-Evans game postponed by rain

Thursday night’s Legacy Classic high school football game between Jones and Evans at Camping World Stadium was suspended and then postponed due to stormy weather.

A storm rolled in to Camping World Stadium just as the Jones and Evans football captains were about to meet at midfield.

Kickoff was suspended, and an hour and 45 minutes later, Thursday night’s Legacy Classic rivalry game was called. The matchup between Jones (2-1) and Evans (1-2) is reschedule­d for Oct. 30.

If Camping World is unavailabl­e, Jones will host the makeup game.

Warriors’ streak on line

West Orange, which went 29-0 in winning the 9A girls volleyball state championsh­ip last season, will put a 36-match winning streak on the line in this weekend’s always-tough Berkeley Prep Premier tournament in Tampa.

The Warriors are 7-0 this season under new head coach Roberto Santasofia. Their Premier bracket includes Palm Harbor University, also 7-0.

The Orlando High School Showcase brings 25 teams to the Orlando Sports Center (6700 Kingspoint­e Parkway) today and Saturday. That field includes host Winter Park (5-1) and a 10-0 Miami Ferguson team. Buddy Collings

Brantley swim invite, Titan golf on schedule

Lake Brantley’s Patriot Invitation­al, one of the state’s top swim meets, is Saturday with 23 schools entered.

Prelims will be held from 8 a.m. to 1, with finals set for 5-7:15 at the Brantley aquatic center.

In boys golf, Olympia holds its twoday 36-hole Titan Invitation­al at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast today and Saturday. The entry list includes 2018 Class 1A state champ Circle Christian, 2A champ Ponte Vedra and a Winter Park team that appears to again be a top 3A title contender.

Junior sensation Canon Claycomb shot 5-under-par 31 at Falcon’s Fire on Monday to lead Circle Christian to a 142-143 win vs. The First Academy in a duel of state title favorites.

Claycomb shot 32-33—65 in the Winter Park Invitation­al and has carded scores of 35, 31 and 31 in nine-hole matches. That’s an average of 32.4 strokes per nine.

Boyle basketball camp for Special Olympics

Kevin Boyle, coach of four-time national champion Montverde Academy, is hosting a free basketball clinic for boys and girls in grades 3-12 on Saturday.

The event will be held at “The Nest” main gym at Montverde (17235 Seventh Street) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Players should register by email to Kelly Boyle at KBBC24@msn.com with full name, grade/age, address and phone number.

Donations from $5-25 will be accepted at the door, with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics of Florida. Buddy Collings

Guo earns pro berth

Sophie Guo, who helped The First Academy win a Class 1A girls golf championsh­ip as the individual state runnerup last season, isn’t playing high school golf as a junior this fall but she’s adding to her resume.

Guo shot consecutiv­e rounds of 69 at at Alaqua Country Club of Longwood to win last weekend’s IOA Golf Classic Junior Qualifier by four shots. That qualified her to play vs. profession­als at Symetra Tour IOA Golf Classic, Sept. 28-30, at Alaqua. Buddy Collings
