Osceola stays perfect in shutout

-

Dwayne McGee ran for 182 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and Kissimmee Osceola, the No. 2 team in the Sentinel Super 16, shut out previously-unbeaten Winter Haven 31-0 on Friday night.

Davon Wells ran for 75 more yards and a touchdown for the Kowboys (3-0). Osceola outrushed the Blue Devils 229 yards to minus-2 in the first half.

Eric Williams managed most of his 163 passing yards in the second half for Winter Haven (2-1).

The Kowboys have won 28 consecutive regular season games over four seasons.

Osceola played the game without standout defensive lineman Mario Kendricks, who suffered an injury last week. Najah Sylvester had a sack and seven tackles in the win.

Andrew O’Conner intercepted a hail mary pass at the end of regulation as No. 3 Edgewater scored a hardfought 31-25 victory vs. host Ocoee.

The Eagles (4-0, 1-0 in 7A-4) led 31-6 before the Knights (1-3, 0-1) rallied with three TDs in the final quarter.

Ocoee quarterback Nicholas Wright completed 18-of-32 passes for 219 yards and three TDs.

Isiah Connelly led Edgewater with 22 carries for 199 yards and one TD.

It’s been a tough week for Trinity Prep, which lost 34-17 to visiting Discovery Charter (3-1) on Friday.

The Saints learned on Thursday that they were ruled ineligible for postseason play for three years by the Florida High School Athletic Association after canceling last week’s scheduled home game against Frostproof. The postseason ban begins this season.

Trinity pulled out of the game due to a number of players with illnesses and injuries, according to athletic director and assistant coach David Langdon.

Langdon declined to comment further but confirmed that Trinity Prep is appealing the decision by the FHSAA.
