who brought a gun to Orlando International Airport in October — and threatened to kill his wife when her plane landed — finds out his prison sentence.

A Palm Bay man who brought a gun to Orlando International Airport in October and threatened to kill his wife when her plane landed was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in state prison followed by five years probation.

Orlando police arrested William Schultz, 50, at OIA after Atlanta police notified them he might be traveling to the airport to kill his wife, Danielle Schultz. The woman was supposed to land in Orlando following a trip to Las Vegas, but changed her flight to Atlanta after William Schultz sent her threatening text messages.

He said he would be waiting for her at OIA, an arrest affidavit said.

An Orlando officer recognized Schultz at the airport near a security checkpoint after Schultz asked for directions to a parking lot. The officer drew his weapon as the man walked quickly past, police said.

William Schultz complied with the officer’s commands to stop.

Police said he had a gun, marijuana and a pocket knife.

He was convicted June 27 of aggravated stalking with a credible threat, carrying a firearm in a place prohibited by law and possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana.

Following a 10-year prison sentence, Schultz’s five-year probation will include no contact with his wife and two daughters and a mandatory mental health screening, according to court records.

Danielle Schultz said the sentence was a weight off her shoulders.

“I finally feel like I have a voice after being gagged for so long,” she said.

Danielle Schultz described the relationship as riddled with abuse since 2016, when William Schultz had a falling-out with the couple’s eldest daughter, she said.

During Danielle Schultz’s Las Vegas trip to visit their daughter, William had hoped she would mend the father-daughter relationship.

When she couldn’t, Danielle Schultz said her husband began sending her text messages saying he was going to beat and “execute” her when she arrived in Orlando.

Both of the couple’s daughters asked the court for the maximum sentence, Danielle Schultz said.

“I am happy to know I’ll be safe for at least 10 years,” she said.
