Cocoa Beach cops nab 2014 slaying suspect

- By David Harris

Cocoa Beach police made an arrest Tuesday in the 2014 homicide of an Orlando woman.

Marylee Elisabeth Walker, 30, of St. Cloud faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal crash, Cocoa Beach police said in a press release.

Jessica Erausquin, 27, was found dead on a residential street on Oct. 16, 2014. An autopsy determined she died of blunt-force trauma to the head. Her autopsy showed she had multiple skull fractures, brain injuries, and cuts and bruises to her head, neck and torso. It also said she had bruises "consistent with seat belt marks."

“Since the incident date on Oct. 16, 2014, Cocoa Beach Police, with assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, have worked tirelessly to solve this case, bring those responsible to justice, and provide much needed closure to Jessica’s family and friends,” Cocoa Beach Police Chief Scott Rosenfeld said in a press release.

Police said a break in the case came after they contacted a “former associate” of Walker’s. The person corroborated other witness statements and the medical examiner’s findings, police said.

Walker and Erausquin were coworkers at Lido Cabaret, a club in Cocoa Beach, and left together in Walker’s vehicle, according to Cocoa Beach police Sgt. Manny Hernandez. He declined to say how exactly Erausquin died, adding that the case remains open and detectives still want to talk to more witnesses.

Police did not give a motive for the killing.

Erausquin’s mother, Olga Erausquin, who lives in New York, said she was overcome with emotion when detectives called Tuesday afternoon to tell her about the arrest.

“I am extremely happy,” she said. “I never lost hope. I strongly believe in prayer, and I always believed there was going to be an arrest.”

Hernandez said detectives were happy to make the call with the news.

Walker was arrested at her St. Cloud home and taken to the Osceola County Jail. A family member reached by telephone declined comment.
