Indians: Corey Kluber struck out 11 in eight innings to record his career-high 19th win as the Indians beat the White Sox 5-3. Kluber (19-7) topped 200 strikeouts for the fifth straight season. ... RHP Trevor Bauer threw to hitters for the first time since breaking his right leg last month and hopes to be back on the mound in time for the postseason. The right-hander pitched three simulated innings of about 17 to 19 pitches per inning. Bauer is 12-6 with a 2.22 ERA in 25 starts. He has been sidelined since he was struck on the lower leg by a line drive Aug. 11.

Orioles: The Orioles fell to the Blue Jays 6-4 to drop their 108th game, a team record for losses since they arrived in Baltimore in 1954. The 1988 Orioles, who opened the season 0-21, held the previous team record with a 54-107 finish. The overall franchise record for defeats is 111, set by the 1939 St. Louis Browns.

Brewers: Jose Peraza capitalized on Chase Anderson’s home run troubles with a drive in the first inning as the Reds won 3-1 to hand the Brewers their third loss in four games. The Brewers’ edge for the top NL wild-card spot was cut to two games by the Cardinals, who beat the Braves 8-1.

Cubs: Closer Brandon Morrow will be shut down for the rest of the year because of an injured right elbow. Morrow, who tops the Cubs with 22 saves, has been on the DL since July 19. The Cubs are without their two relievers with the most saves — Pedro Strop has 13 and is out with a hamstring injury, and the team hopes he’s ready for the playoffs. The Cubs will go with a closerby-committee plan.

Astros: Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in a four-run third inning that helped the Astros beat the Mariners 7-0. The Astros eliminated the Mariners from contention for the AL West title with the victory. Rookie Josh James (1-0) struck out seven and scattered four hits over 51⁄3 innings for his first major-league win. Four relievers completed the shutout.
