Milton, Singletary earn Heisman hype

-

wasn’t the only player on the field Friday with a Heisman Trophy campaign. FAU has put together its own campaign for running back

purchasing billboards on Interstate 95 in Broward County that say “Heisman in Paradise.” The school also sent Matchbox cars with Singletary promotional material to media members. Singletary rushed for more than 1,900 yards and 32 touchdowns last season, earning him preseason Conference USA Player of the Year honors.

UCF distributed leis and launched a website chronicing Hawaii native Milton’s success. He steered the Knights to a 13-0 record, conference title and Peach Bowl win last season. Milton earned American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors and finished eighth in the 2017 Heisman voting. Sanford Seminole High had a bye week, so several players took advantage of a rare Friday night off to attend the FAU-UCF contest. Recent UCF commit, 2020 wide receiver

Also in attendance from Seminole were 2019 tight end and 2019 receiver Pierce has FBS scholarship offers from Charlotte and FIU. Krull is still waiting on his offers, but it shouldn’t be long.

A big target and solid route runner, Krull has had an impressive start to his senior season. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has 15 catches for 344 yards and five touchdowns during four games for the 3-1 Seminoles.

won’t mention any names, but he said rest assured that many of the 12 former Central Florida high school stars on the FAU roster were fired up for the Owls’ matchup at UCF on Friday night.

“Listen, I already know … there are several players from Orlando who are on a mission. They are coming in here to take care of business,” Lewis said before the game. “There are some guys on that team who can’t wait to show what they can do.”

Lewis is the father of FAU All-Conference USA senior cornerback

who played at Orlando East River High. The Lewis home was only 2 miles from UCF’s football stadium and the younger Lewis wanted to stay home and play for the Knights.

Even though his father would not come right out and say it, Shelton Lewis Jr. entered Friday with a score to settle with UCF. Many of the former Orlando-area players who felt slighted by UCF in the recruiting process have similar agendas.

“Shelton had 28 offers coming out of high school and he sat around and waited for UCF,” said Shelton Lewis Sr.

he was the DB coach … and he reached out to [East River coach] at the time and said, ‘Hey, we love Shelton. We’re gonna offer him.’ Shelton waited and waited and waited around for that offer and it never came.

“I finally told him, ‘You’re going to lose these other offers if you keep waiting around on UCF. You need to make a decision.’ And that’s how he ended up choosing FAU. We made that decision one week before National Signing Day.”

UCF’s all-time leading rusher, returned to Spectrum Stadium Friday, but this time as an opponent. Smith is in his second season as FAU’s running backs coach. … UCF redshirt freshman offensive lineman is no longer with the team. Castillo, a 6-foot-6, 386-pound tackle from Lafayette Mayo High, was dismissed from the squad for personal issues.
