Area’s top teams await point totals

A week that starts with little movement in area rankings will end with key district matchups between Super 16 teams playing just days after the FHSAA unveils its first playoff points standings.

Consider this the calm before the storm when it comes to Sentinel Super 16 football teams making a push towards the Florida High School Athletic Associatio­n postseason.

A week that starts with very little movement in the area rankings will conclude with several key district matchups involving Super 16 teams playing just days after the first FHSAA playoff points standings are unveiled today.

No. 7 West Orange (4-1) hosts No. 1 Wekiva (4-0) and No. 11 Lake Mary (3-1) hosts No. 13 Oviedo (3-1) in crucial district outings. No. 9 Jones (3-1) at No. 12 Bishop Moore (2-2) will likely decide the champion in Class 5A, District 13.

No. 15 Lake Brantley (2-3), new to the rankings this week alongside No. 16 Hagerty, plays at No. 8 Seminole (3-1) in 8A-2.

Dr. Phillips, last year’s Class 8A state champion, dropped to 1-4 and out of the Super 16.

The Super 16 is made up of teams in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties.

1. Wekiva (4-0): RB Supreme Richardson and QB Larry Preston led the offense in 43-7 win vs. Olympia (1-4). Next: Friday at No. 7 West Orange (4-1).

2. Osceola (4-0): Kowboys were off last week.

Next: Friday at Davenport Ridge Community (2-3). 3. Edgewater (4-0):

Eagles were off last week.

Next: Friday vs. Ocala West Port (1-4).

4. Apopka (4-1): Akeem Brown reached the end zone five times as Blue Darters rushed for 348 yards in 49-13 win at thenNo. 16 Boone (3-2). Next: Friday vs. Evans (1-3).

5. DeLand (4-1): Dalen Burns caught four passes for 145 yards for Bulldogs, who gained 516 yards of offense in 56-13 win vs. Deltona Pine Ridge (0-5).

Next: Friday at Port Orange Spruce Creek (2-3).

6. Winter Park (4-1): Tyrone Davis rushed 20 times for 257 yards and two TDs and Nick Jackson had two sacks in 30-0 win at Evans (1-3). Next: Friday vs. Timber Creek (1-4). 7. West Orange (4-1):

Warriors tallied 557 yards of offense while passing for 283 yards and rushing for 274 yards in 70-0 win at Cypress Creek (1-4). Next: Friday vs. No. 1 Wekiva (4-0). 8. Seminole (3-1): Seminoles were off last week. Next: Friday vs. No. 15 Lake Brantley (2-3).

9. Jones (3-1): Avarious Sparrow and Treveon Bouie each rushed for three touchdowns for Tigers in 60-0 win at Ocala Forest (3-2). Next: Friday at No. 12 Bishop Moore (2-2). 10. Lake Nona (3-1): Lions were off last week. Next: Friday vs. Windermere High (1-3). 11. Lake Mary (3-1):
