The “new future of mobility” will be tested in Orlando next month, as the rideshare company Lyft partners with LYNX, Zipcar and SunRail to encourage commuters to ditch their cars for about a month.

Fifty people will receive more than $600 in transportation credits combined from the four organizations to encourage them to spend 30 days, starting Oct. 8, traveling by train, bus and, um, other people’s cars.

Tracking participants in the “Ditch Your Car” program to ensure they don’t drive will be based on the honor system but they will expect those chosen to park their cars for the month, officials with Lyft said.

Those interested are encouraged to visit ditchwithlyft.com/ Orlando and sign up.

“The way that people move around in cities is changing faster than ever, and we are excited to challenge Orlando residents to change their everyday habits and give up their car for a month,” said Sam Cohen, Lyft Florida’s general manager in a news release.

The 50 winners will receive $300 in credit for Lyft rides, along with 30-day passes for the LYNX bus system and SunRail’s commuter trains. Zipcar also has added a one-month membership and credits for rides.

“We welcome promoting lastmile connections that give our passengers options,” SunRail CEO Nicola Liquori said in the same release.

They say the fact that they will be dealing with volunteers who want to have a positive impact makes them confident the rules will be followed.
