■ Rockies: David Dahl homered for the fifth game in a row and Ian Desmond hit a two-run HR to help the NL West-leading Rockies clinch a playoff berth with a 5-2 win over the Nationals in Denver. It was the eighth straight victory for the Rockies, who earned a postseason berth for the second year in a row.

■ Cubs: Kyle Hendricks allowed two runs in eight innings and Kris Bryant homered to help the NL Central-leading Cubs beat the Cardinals 8-4 in Chicago.

■ Brewers: The Brewers stayed within one game of the Cubs in the NL Central with a 6-5 home win over the Tigers in Milwaukee. Ryan Braun made the difference with a solo HR in the eighth.

■ Braves: Manager Brian Snitker said before the Braves’ 10-2 win over the Phillies that the team is optimistic that SS Dansby Swanson will return from a partially torn ligament in his left hand by the start of the National League Division Series next week. Swanson will continue to undergo treatment this weekend in Atlanta while the NL East champions conclude the regular season in Philadelphia. Snitker said Swanson could take some swings off a tee in the next day or two. And if that went well, Snitker said Swanson will take part in a workout Tuesday in preparation for the NLDS.

■ Astros, Orioles: Gerrit Cole gave up just one run, five hits and a walk in six innings to help the AL West champion Astros edge the Orioles 2-1 in Baltimore. Cole, who didn’t get the decision, finished the regular season 15-5 with a 2.88 ERA. Josh Reddick homered in the victory . ... Orioles manager Buck Showalter said 1B Chris Davis won’t play again this season. Davis will finish with a .168 batting average, lowest by a qualifier in big-league history. The previous record was .179, by Rob Deer in 1991 and Dan Uggla in 2013. Davis has 16 HRs, 49 RBIs and 192 strikeouts in 128 games. The two-time majorleague home run leader is in the midst of a seven-year, $161 million contract he signed after the 2015 season.
