- By Roy Parry

Orlando held off a South Carolina comeback attempt Monday night. One night later the Solar Bears knew exactly how the Stingrays felt.

The visiting Stingrays broke open a tied game with a four-goal second period, then held off a thirdperiod rally to score a 6-5 victory over the Solar Bears in the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday night at Amway Center.

Grant Besse, Mike Chen, Jonathan Charbonneau, Matt Pohlkamp, Sam Fioretti and Jake Kamrass each scored for the Stingrays (1-2-0-0, 2 points), who trailed 5-1 on Monday before losing 5-4.

Nolan Valleau scored two goals, while Brady Shaw, Colby McAuley and Hunter Fejes each recorded a goal for the Solar Bears (1-2-0-0, 2 points).

Rookie forward Brent Pedersen assisted with Alex Ranger on Valleau’s first goal and has now registered a point in each of the Solar Bears’ three games.

The Stingrays broke open a 2-2 tie with a fourgoal second period that also featured seven penalties, including a 10-minute game misconduct against South Carolina’s Marcus Perrier.

Down four, the Solar Bears rallied with three goals in the third, with power-play goals by Valleau and Fejes starting and ending the burst.

Orlando went on the power play with 1:47 left in the game but couldn’t get the tying goal.

The Solar Bears outshot the Stingrays 49-41, winning that statistical category for the first time this season.

The Solar Bears hit the road Friday to take on the Jacksonville Icemen as they close out their October schedule by playing five of their next six games away from home.
