Fatal shooting reported at troubled bar
The Orange County Sheriff ’s Office has identified the victim in a fatal shooting this morning at the Happy Place Sports Bar — the third shooting in four months at the bar, which has been the source of dozens of calls to law enforcement this year.
Officials said the victim is Adrian Manrique Peralta, age 24. His sister, Adarmari Manrique Peralta, age 20, was arrested at the scene for resisting arrest without violence, but she was not involved in the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office said.
About 5:45 a.m., the agency received a call of an aggravated battery and shots fired at 7400 Southland Blvd. Upon arrival, Orange County Fire Rescue pronounced one person dead.
The Happy Place Sports Bar, located in a strip mall on Southland Boulevard near U.S. Highway 441, was the site of a July 9 fight that left 20-year-old Edgar Rivera dead. A security guard and three other men were also shot but survived.
On Sept 10, a 55-year-old man believed to be an innocent bystander was shot outside the bar after a confrontation between a security guard and another person.
Property owners have been attempting to evict the bar’s owners.
Deputies are keeping close watch on the premises which has stirred neighborhood concerns, sheriff’s spokeswoman Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said.
If problems persist, deputies could seek to brand the bar a public nuisance, a strategy requiring action by a nuisance abatement board which can impose sanctions.
A “public nuisance” premises is defined as a place where three or more violations of prostitution, drug-dealing or dealing in stolen property have occurred with six months.
