Rankings largely unchanged

Crucial matchups in Week 10 of the high school football regular season will decide playoff spots and probably shake things up in the Sentinel Super 16.

The area’s top teams held their positions last week in the Super 16 entering games scheduled for Thursday and Friday. No. 15 Boone was the lone casualty, losing 38-3 at home against No. 6 Winter Park.

Groveland South Lake moved up one spot to No. 15 after winning 42-23 at Ocala Forest. Dr. Phillips, which finished as No. 1 last season, rejoined the rankings at No. 16 following a district-clinching 44-13 win at Olympia.

Super 16 matchups involving No. 7 Apopka at No. 2 Wekiva and No. 9 Seminole at No. 13 Lake Mary ensure the rankings will look much different next week.

The Super 16 consists of teams in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties. Team record and upcoming opponents are included in rankings with last week’s ranking, if different, noted in parenthese­s. each rushed for two touchdowns in a 42-6 win vs. Haines City (2-6). Friday vs. Lakeland George Jenkins (6-2).

6. Winter Park (8-1): J.J. Valle-Smith finished with three fumbles and two sacks while Peter HayesPatri­ck rushed for 217 yards and three TDs in a 38-3 win at then-No. 15 Boone (5-3).

Nov. 2 vs. No. 13 Lake Mary (5-3).

7. Apopka (6-2): The Blue Darters were off last week.

Friday at No. 2 Wekiva (7-1).

8. Oviedo (7-1): The Lions rallied from a 25-point deficit in the second quarter for their first district title since 2014 with a 44-42 win vs. Lake Brantley (3-5). Friday at Lyman (3-5).

9. Seminole (6-2): The Seminoles rebounded from a close district loss vs. Oviedo to win 28-14 at Winter Springs (1-7). Friday at No. 13 Lake Mary (5-3).

10. West Orange (6-3): Nemea Hall rushed for three touchdowns in a 52-18 win at Evans (1-6). Nov. 2 vs. Ocoee (4-4).

11. Harmony (8-1): Nathan Herstich threw five touchdown passes and Elijah Gunn finished with 13 total tackles in a 63-12 win vs. Celebratio­n (2-7). Friday at Satellite (3-5). Channing Stotts blocked a punt and Caleb Perez forced a fumble in a 42-13 win vs. Port St. Lucie Centennial (6-2). Friday at Eustis (4-4).

13. Lake Mary (5-3): Gunnar Smith passed for 236 yards and two touchdowns and Mike Cardegnio rushed for 128 yards and two more scores in a 42-0 victory over Orange City University (1-8). Friday vs. No. 9 Seminole (6-2).

14. Lake Nona (6-2): Victor Vega tallied 16 total tackles and Moises Aracena rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown in a 20-14 win at East River (4-4).

Thursday vs. Liberty (6-2).

15. (16) Groveland South Lake (5-3): Zach Martin and Mike Nafield combined for 310 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 42-23 win at Ocala Forest (3-5). Friday vs. Gainesvill­e (5-3).

16. (NR) Dr. Phillips (4-5): The Panthers recorded a school-record five intercepti­ons in a 44-13 win at Olympia (2-6). Thursday at Cypress Creek (1-7).
