With days to go, Scott releases Spanish-language ad, ‘Familia’

- By Steven Lemongello

The Rick Scott campaign released a new Spanish-language ad with less than a week to go before the U.S. Senate election.

In the ad, entitled “Familia,” Scott says, “For me, family is everything. … It’s not about one political party vs. the other. It’s about making sure your family has what you need to succeed.”

The ad is the latest in a series of Spanish language ads released by the Scott campaign and aimed at the state’s Hispanic community, which has been shifting towards U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in several recent polls.

Scott’s previous Spanish language ad, “Fight For You,” claims he “confronted” President Donald Trump’s denial of the estimated death toll in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, referencing a tweet from Scott in September in which he said “I disagree” with Trump’s false claim that the island’s official death toll estimate of nearly 3,000 people was politically inflated.

That ad, along with an earlier spot, “Compromiso,” featured Scott trying to distance and differentiate himself from Trump in the wake of Trump’s comments and criticism of the president’s handling of the post-Maria recovery.

At the same time, Scott ended his long drought of not being seen with Trump at campaign events by appearing at a MAGA rally in Fort Myers Wednesday.

Scott was also scheduled to appear with Trump at another rally Saturday in Pensacola.
