‘Looking for Alaska’: John Green novel becomes Hulu series
John Green’s “Looking for Alaska” will become an eight-episode limited series from Hulu.
The book was just ranked at No. 92 on “The Great American Read,” a list of the country’s 100 best-loved novels. (Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” came in first during the PBS series last week.)
Green, who grew up in Orlando and lives in Indianapolis, announced casting via twitter Tuesday.
Kristine Froseth will play Alaska Young, and Charlie Plummer will portray Miles “Pudge” Halter, who narrates and falls in love with Alaska.
Green drew on his boarding-school experiences to write “Looking for Alaska,” his first novel. Time magazine listed it among the 100 Best Young Adult Novels of All Time, and Green received the American Library Association’s Michael L. Printz Award for the book.
His other novels include “Turtles All the Way Down,” “Paper Towns” and “The Fault in Our Stars.” The latter two became films.
The series “Looking for Alaska” will come from Paramount Television and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire.
Schwartz, who wrote the pilot, will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
Green is among the executive producers. He was recently profiled by “60 Minutes,” and he is among the most famous people to come out of Central Florida. In 2014, he told me how Orlando had shaped his writing.
Plummer’s film credits include “Lean on Pete” and “All the Money in the World.” In the latter, he played John Paul Getty III and worked with Christopher Plummer, Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg.
Froseth’s credits include two Netflix series, “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” and “Apostle.” She plays the female lead in the upcoming film “Low Tide.”
